Apply for Public Housing

Public housing is a critical component of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). It helps low-income families, the elderly, and the disabled to afford decent, safe, and sanitary housing in the private market. MADISON HOUSING AUTHORITY is dedicated to helping you access the perfect housing rental subsidy solution for you.

ACOP

Welcome to the Admissions and Continued Occupancy Policy (ACOP) Information Page. Below is a general overview of the key components of our policy, which helps guide the process of applying for and maintaining public housing with us:

Admissions

We accept applications from individuals and families who meet specific eligibility requirements, including income limits and household size. To be eligible for housing assistance, applicants must:

Meet income qualifications based on federal guidelines.
Provide required documentation, such as proof of identity and income.
Not have a history of criminal activity or violations that would disqualify them from receiving housing assistance.

Application Process

To apply for public housing, you will need to:

Submit a completed application form, available online or at our office.
Provide supporting documentation (e.g., proof of income, family composition).
Be placed on a waiting list if no immediate units are available. Placement on the waiting list depends on the date and time of your application, as well as any preferences you may qualify for (e.g., veteran status, disability).

Continued Occupancy

Once admitted into housing, tenants must meet certain ongoing requirements to maintain eligibility, including:

Income Recertification: Tenants must report any changes in household income annually or when requested.
Rent Payment: Tenants are required to pay rent on time each month, based on a percentage of their income.
Compliance with Lease Terms: This includes abiding by rules related to property upkeep, community behavior, and household composition.

Termination of Occupancy

Your tenancy may be terminated if:

You fail to meet income eligibility during recertification.
There are lease violations, such as failure to pay rent or disruptive behavior.
You provide false or incomplete information during the application or recertification process.
